Easily And Quickly Fix New Steam Folder Must Be Writable

If the Steam Library folder just resides in a corrupted hard drive, you might encounter the Steam folder not writable . In this case, you can use CHKDSK to check and repair hard drive errors.

Step 1. Type cmd in the search box, and then right-click Command Prompt app and select Run as administrator.

Step 2. Type chkdsk C: /f in the command prompt and press Enter. (Replace with the drive that stores the Steam folder)

Solution 7. Allow the Game Through Your Antivirus Program

Sometimes, your Antivirus program can prevent Steam from accessing certain game files. Here we will take Windows firewall for example to add the game to exceptions list.

Step 1. Type firewall in the search box and select the Windows Defender Firewall.

Step 2. Click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall from the left pane.

Step 3. Then select the checkbox of Steam.exe or the game from the list and click OK.

For AVG, select Home > Settings > Components > Web Shield > Exceptions to add Steam to exceptions list. For Kaspersky, select Home > Settings > Additional > Threats and Exclusions > Exclusions > Specify Trusted Applications > Add.
